Difference Between Anaerobic and Aerobic Exercise

At the base level, the definition is easy. Aerobic is a term that means ‘with oxygen’. The term anerobic means ‘without oxygen’. But that is an oversimplification.

This means, instead of oxygen, the body uses glucose to provide energy. Muscles store small amount of glucose to provide short periods of energy needed to perform intense exercises. When glucose is metabolized it is called glycolysis which produces lactic acid. When lactic acid builds up, it can create muscle fatigue and the burning sensation many experience in their muscles. Because of this, the time performing anaerobic exercises is limited to short periods of time.

Aerobic exercises incorporate lower-intensity, endurance-based exercises such as:
